Mission

Our mission is to empower emerging artists by providing a collaborative space that fosters creativity, offers professional development, and connects them with opportunities to advance their careers. We are dedicated to nurturing artistic talent and building a vibrant community where creativity thrives.

Welcome to Task!
A space for artists that need space.

Task Creative is a vibrant DIY art gallery dedicated to empowering emerging artists by offering a flexible and affordable space for creative exploration and exhibition. Spanning 700 square feet, our studio/gallery space is designed to be a dynamic platform for pop-up exhibitions, installations, critiques, and a wide range of artistic activities.

At Task Creative, we understand the challenges artists face in finding affordable venues to showcase their work. That’s why we provide an accessible space that allows artists to take creative risks, experiment with new ideas, and engage directly with their audience. Our goal is to foster a supportive community where artistic innovation thrives and emerging talents can gain exposure and develop their careers.

Whether you're looking to host an exhibition, hold a workshop, or conduct a critique session, Task Creative offers the flexibility and support you need to bring your artistic vision to life. Join us in creating a vibrant and inclusive art scene that celebrates creativity and supports the growth of emerging artists.

About me

I am Amy Cannestra, a contemporary artist who uses performance, multi-media installation, and drawing to navigate the journey of body acceptance, self-love, and the intricate dance between external influences and internal emotions.

I received my BFA in Communication Design from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2006 and my MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015. Since then I have been performing and exhibiting internationally, participating in events such as the 2016 TransArt Triennial in Germany, ChaShaMa pop-up at the One World Trade Center in New York City, the 2017 TRIO: Biennial in Rio de Janeiro, and, most notably, the 58th Venice Biennial in the Grenada Pavilion. In January of 2024 I exhibited two new bodies of work at the Bliss Gallery in Waukesha, WI and the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton, WI.

Alongside my studio practice, I am one-third of SPOOKY BOOBS, a feminist art collaboration with artists J. Myszka Lewis, and Maggie Snyder. I also am a graphic designer at the Milwaukee Art Museum, an aunt, and a dog mom.

Macaroni & Ed

These little love bugs are Macaroni (white and brown) and her little brother Ed (black and brown). Both pups were rescued and have been thriving ever since. Macaroni pretends she wants to help you install your work, then just sits on your lap and snuggles, so beware of those puppy dog eyes (unless you are looking to procrastinate). Ed (named after the Hyena in The Lion King) is a bundle of energy and will steal your snacks.
